ACTION MAN vs DR. X
The Action Man of the 90’s had many villains to battle with and one of the most fearsome was his arch enemy Dr X and his army of X-Robots. Dr X is an old adversary of Action Man, he was also the one who gave him his scar many years ago.

Dr-X (McDonalds 2001)

The Dr X action figure was first introduced in 1993 and over the years has had many of his body parts replaced with a variety of mechanical parts. This “Electronic” version shows him with just a part of one arm and part of his head still being flesh, it has a light-up eye and can explode if hit in the right place. All of the body parts are connected by tubes which holds everything together after he has exploded.

The X-Robots

The X-Robots first appear in Robot Atak where at first they seem invincible, that is until Action Man finds a weak spot that makes them explode.

Three X-Robots were released during 2004. Two of them were sold in single packs with the third being sold in a pack with the Power Combat Action Man. The only differences between the robots were their colours (one was red, the other black and the action man pack robot was grey) and the numbers on their back, the red was 310, the black was 011 and the Grey one was 154. The Robots exploded by pressing a button on their chest (the face, right shoulder and part of the chest were shot apart). A button on the back had to be pressed first in order to activate the feature.

A dark Green X-Robot was supplied in an orange side box attached to another Action Man toy and is numbered 011 also a Blue one was supplied with an Action Man Submarine sold in UK Woolworths Stores. A Yellow One was also shown in some leaflets in a two pack with a Fencer Action Man.

Later, a new version of the X-Robot, named “Toxic Robot” was released, it came in a copperish red colour and included sword-shaped hands, a new skull-shaped shoulder and a new face reflecting Dr X’s slight changes in appearance. It had the number 011 written on its back and also exploded.

An Action Man set entitled Samurai Action Man Vs Robot Doctor X contained another version in Grey and Purple.

2008 saw two new versions of the X-Robots released. These were similar in appearance to the original ones, but their face was changed to reflect Dr X’s new helmeted appearance. They had a “fire and ice” motif, the “fire” one was black and red, and the “ice” one was blue and white. both have the number 011 written on their backs and also exploded.
